Engineering and Tech

Engineer the computers that go beyond classical limits.

Our work sits where physics becomes engineering — and every layer of the stack is still being invented. Chip, control, cloud. No playbook.

Full-stack quantum. Built in-house.

From the chip in our own clean room to the software controlling the full system — we build it all. Shipped on-prem to national labs, supercomputing centers, and research institutions worldwide. Or accessed in the cloud via IQM Resonance.

Short feedback loop. Real hardware. Tools the community actually uses.

Independent thinkers. Strong sense of togetherness.

We asked our engineering and tech team to describe IQM's culture. Here's what they said:

"Open-minded, approachable, and allergic to ego. Everyone's ideas matter — we discuss, challenge, and improve together."
"Humour, honesty, and curiosity keep us moving forward — even when the problems are complex. We take our work seriously, but never ourselves too much."
"We find routes through obstacles others don't even see. Restless and impossible to stop when we see a challenge worth solving."

Challenges worth solving

Every layer of the stack is unsolved territory. From silicon to cloud, pick your depth and go further than anyone has before.
QPU Packaging

Assemble qubit chips into systems running at 10 mK. Flip-chip layouts, Purcell filter integration, survival through thermal cycling inside a 750 kg cryostat.

Wiring & Connectivity

Route microwave control and readout through every stage of a dilution refrigerator. Carry signal without carrying heat, all the way down to 10 mK.

Control Electronics & Firmware

IQM Quantum Control System on PXIe. FPGA firmware generating microwave pulses, capturing dispersive readout, closing feedback loops in nanoseconds.

System Integration

A thousand subsystems from suppliers worldwide, deployed on-prem at LRZ, VTT, and Jülich. Orchestrate power, timing, and control into one machine.

Quantum Control Software

Execute circuits across Crystal and Star QPUs. Open stack — Qiskit, Cirq, Qrisp, CUDA Quantum on top, pulse-level control underneath.

Cloud & Fleet Platform

A fleet of QPUs across IQM's Espoo and Munich datacenters. IQM Resonance gives researchers worldwide pulse-level access and hybrid classical-quantum workflows.

The destination

Fault-tolerant quantum computers with 1M qubits.

Why engineering experts choose IQM

Growing between a startup and a corporation. The sweet spot for engineers who want to matter.
Own the entire stack
Hardware to algorithms. Your ideas go from whiteboard to cryostat. Own it end-to-end and see the full system behave because of decisions you made.
Your work ships
Short feedback loop. Build tools the community actually uses — deployed on hardware running in labs around the globe.
Problems worth solving
Real systems running in labs worldwide. Your engineering enables discoveries in medicine, energy, and materials that today’s classical computers can’t reach.
Growth that mirrors ambition
Promotions based on readiness, not tenure. Certifications, courses, and learning built into every day. Grow as fast as the technology itself.
Intensity without burnout
Remote-friendly, flexible hours, and a culture that respects your life outside the lab or office. Nordic work culture: trusted with responsibility, not micromanaged.
Surrounded by experts
Work alongside physicists, hardware engineers, and software engineers. An international team pushing past the boundaries of what’s been done before — growth ceiling set by competence and ambition, not org chart.

Your tech stack

From clean-room chip design to cloud deployment. Tools running across every engineering team at IQM — including the open-source libraries used by the wider quantum community.

Python
Rust

If the tool doesn’t exist, you’ll build it — and likely open-source it for the quantum community to use.
